Hi everyone,
Okay, here's the skinny. I had benign positional vertigo (BPV). Crystals in a cavity in my inner ear had dislodged themselves somehow, causing the sensation that things were moving when they weren't. I went to a hearing specialist that used a technique of having me lay back and move my head from side to side and use this vibrating thing against my head to get the crystals to gravitate back into the proper cavity. He said there is now absolutely no danger in flying. I am good to go!!!! See ya at Lockn' this weekend! Thanks everyone for your concern and good vibes,

Widespread Panic Donates $176K In Instruments To Tennessee Schools August 17, 2017 09:48
Photo by Craig Baird: Home Team Photography
Two Shelby Country (TN) band programs are now fully equipped to play music thanks to a generous donation from Widespread Panic. The band’s 'Tunes For Tots Foundation' donated $176,898 in brand new instruments to both Cummings School and Raleigh-Egypt Middle and High School. Each year's 'Tunes For Tots' show is held the night before Panic's New Year's run, typically at a much more intimate venue with a premium ticket price (i.e. Ryman Auditorium, The Fillmore Charlotte). Stay tuned for further info on the band's New Year's + Tunes For Tots plans this year!
The official Tunes For Tot's Facebook page describes its mission as the following: "Widespread Panic believes that art education, and in particular music education, is integral to the overall education and advancement of children. Art allows for personal expression, appreciation of ideas, celebration of cultural awareness, sharing emotions, and gives purpose to life. Widespread Panic agrees with research findings that art education supports more traditional academic subjects as well as being a worthy pursuit in its own right."

SUSTO Announces Fall Tour With Esmé Patterson August 16, 2017 10:34
Critically acclaimed artists SUSTO (pronounced “soos-toh”) and Esmé Patterson have confirmed a 33 city co-headline tour with shows in major markets across the U.S. and in Toronto. The two artists will also play separate headline shows throughout the run. See the dates below for more information. The coast to coast tour begins in October and spans 11 weeks to close out 2017. Notable stops include The Roxy in Los Angeles, Bowery Ballroom in New York City, and The Basement East in Nashville (SUSTO only). Tickets go on-sale Friday, August 18th.
Charleston, SC based SUSTO, released their album & I’m Fine Today in early 2017. Of the record, PASTE writes “the rich narratives echo on a molecular level; Osborne’s voice bleeds sincerity alongside veteran accompaniment.” The band has been featured in Billboard, NPR Music, Rolling Stone and Relix, in addition to their national television debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday. This year alone, SUSTO has headlined more than 95 shows, in addition to support tours with The Lumineers, The Head & The Heart, and a European tour in August and September with Band of Horses. The band’s single “Jah Werx” is currently at AAA radio.
Denver based Esmé Patterson, founder and former member of Paper Bird, has been performing solo since her break with the indie-folk band in 2012. Described by the New York Times as “wiry and candid, backed by arrangements that roll along the folk-country borderline,” her first album gained attention with a feature of fellow Coloradan Nathaniel Rateliff. Two years later, Esmé collaborated with Shakey Graves on the hit song “Dearly Departed”, performing the track on The Late Show with David Letterman and Conan. The singer-songwriter’s most recent album We Were Wild earned the attention of numerous national outlets, and opened the door to a NPR Tiny Desk concert in February. Most recently, Esmé composed original music for the Netflix series Gypsy, which was released in June of this year.

Turkuaz Adds More 2017 Tour Dates August 15, 2017 10:58
Brooklyn, NY -- As an eventful summer rolls on, Turkuaz is enthused to unveil a throng of additional dates to their Fall 2017 Tour. Consisting of just short of fifty stops and covering ground from coast to coast, the extensive run maintains the band on a busy schedule through December. In addition to Sinkane, who joins throughout the already announced West Coast leg, other hand picked special guests include Con Brio, The Suffers, & Pimps Of Joytime. Amidst the many club and theater plays, including a hometown show at the newly opened Brooklyn Steel, are a handful of festival appearances including Whale Rock Music Festival, Joshua Tree Music Festival, LEAF Festival, & Hangtown Music Festival. The last two dates revealed today lay anticipation towards The Ball Drop, the band’s annual New Year’s event that remains unannounced at the moment. Special fan pre-sale tickets are available now at www.turkuazband.com ahead of general public on sale this Friday, Aug 18 @ 12pm local time.
They’ve become one of Brooklyn’s freshest exports, nine charismatic men and women brightly outfitted to have their colorful nature match their expressive voice, playing sounds that blend genuine soul and a potent funk that can’t be forced. It’s been a quickly addictive pulse and a reputation for a distinct, heavy footed “Powerfunk” that continues to steadily grow their presence. Since hitting the road hard in 2012, Turkuaz have a released a handful of albums, canvassed the US more times over, and continued to gather devoted listeners along the way. The band has made impactful appearances at Bonnaroo & Red Rocks, and filled rooms east to west from Terminal 5 in New York to The Fillmore in San Francisco. Balancing the conventional wisdom that has sparked their flame and using its heat to forge their own sword, Turkuaz is a band that can make anyone appreciate the side that feels familiar, yet remain intrigued by it’s ability to explore its own complex character comprised of nine striking personalities.
Live, Turkuaz is a rock band at the core, yet conjures up sweaty dance parties with the flick of an on-switch, a synchronized dance palette of vibrant colors, and eargasms that deliver pleasing punches one song at a time. That combination is a spectacle that’s hard to miss and hard to leave feeling anything short of quenched.

Coming off their 2016 Red Rocks debut and a summer filled with festival plays (KAABOO, Summer Camp, and High Sierra) the Squeeze now prepare to release their most potent work to date, a brand new hard-hitting sound that transitions them from the indie scene to the majors. Many have likely heard the band's numerous singles, such as "Message To The Lonely," "Dr. Funk," and "Sweat," on SiriusXM JamOn, as well as other radio stations across the country.

Get To Know The Lineup:
BIG Something
A 6 piece powerhouse with a sound that is both unique and timeless, BIG Something fuses elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation to take listeners on a journey through a myriad of musical styles. It's no secret why this group has quickly become one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the Southeast. Soaring guitars, synths, horns and alluring vocal hooks rise to the top of their infectious collection of songs and represent a sound that has caught the ears of such revered Summer circuit stalwarts as Galactic, moe., Robert Randolph, and even The B52s who have all tapped Big Something as direct support.
This past February the group released their 4th full-length studio album, Tumbleweed, which was recorded once again with the help of grammy nominated producer John Custer (Corrosion of Conformity). He has produced all of their albums including Truth Serum, which was named 2014 Album of the Year by The Homegrown Music Network, making Big Something the only band ever to win this award 3 times with 3 different releases (2010, 2013, and 2014).
Watch BIG Something perform "The Flood" with Jake Cinninger of Umphrey's McGee here:
The Heavy Pets
The Heavy Pets are a funky-ass rock and roll band from South Florida. Called "a living, breathing force of nature" by Relix magazine, they are known for their songcraft and powerhouse live performances. The band has been a mainstay on the national touring circuit for over a decade, and will release its fourth full-length studio album in September 2017.
The Pets are a seasoned live act, playing over 1200 shows across the country since their inception in 2005. The band's energetic, extended sets have been described as "full blown musical salvation" that embodies the sound of their Florida home, weaving together elements of indie rock, funk and reggae into a style that is uniquely their own.
The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation upon the release of their debut album Whale in 2007. The crossover sound on their self-titled release, named a "Top 10 Album of 2010" by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music. 2011 saw the release of Swim Out Past The Sun, an acoustic affair featuring longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator David Grisman. Beginning in 2013, The Heavy Pets put out a series of EPs recorded at the legendary Power Station studios, and will release its fourth full-length album in September 2017.
Watch The Heavy Pets perform "Dewpoint" > "Jackie Bones" here:
Backup Planet
Rock ‘n’ roll epitomizes escapism in its purest form. It’s not just artistic anesthetization either, but rather a galvanizing force that inspires us to keep pushing through life’s trials and tribulations. That’s why we still listen to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush, and countless others all these years later. It’s the same reason audiences will be talking about Backup Planet’s second full-length album, Reactions, for a long time to come. The Nashville, TN quartet—Ben Cooper [keys, vocals], Chris Potocik [drums, vocals], Gavin Donati [guitar, vocals], and Blake Gallant [bass, vocals]—write arena-size anthems echoing with progressive intricacy, funk swagger, and even a little metallic edge. Giving listeners an inspiring and invigorating aural haven, their moniker couldn’t be more apropos…
Watch Backup Planet perform David Bowie's "Fame" here:
Freekbass
Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Freekbass was an only child who initially wanted to be a magician. He later developed his own obsession for cartoon superheroes and comic books, relating to the underlying themes.
Living in Cincinnati exposed Freekbass to genres of music he may have missed otherwise. While most kids were listening to Nirvana and Green Day, he connected with the bottom-heavy sounds coming out of the boom boxes like Zapp and Midnight Star. While working in a music shop to pay off his first electric bass he had in lay-away, he began to study the classics of Larry Graham, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Parliament and Bootsy with a bass in one hand, and an MPC2000 in the other.
Freekbass has released six full-length CDs, including “Concentrate” with guests Bootsy Collins, DJ Spooky, Adam Deitch, and Steve Molitz, and “Junkyard Waltz” which includes guest appearances by Phish bassist Mike Gordon, guitarist Buckethead, keyboard wizard from P-Funk/Talking Heads Bernie Worrell, and is produced by funk legend Bootsy Collins. Also, national music DVD instruction company, The Rock House Method, recently released two Freekbass instructional DVDs “Learn Funk Bass with Freekbass (Level 1 & Level 2) “, and TrueFire.com just released the instructional DVD/download “50 Freekbass Licks You Must Know” . In 2010 Freekbass connected with DJ Logic, and Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz to form the funktronica trio, Headtronics.
Going into 2015 Freek has a lot of things on the table. He just released his next album , “Everybody’s Feelin’ Real”, which is produced by Duane Lundy (My Morning Jacket’s Jim James/Ben Sollee) and includes P-Funk/Rubberband keyboardist Razor Sharp Johnson, horn man Skerik, and Trey Anastasio Band vocalist/trumpet Jennifer Hartswick . Also, he was a part of this year’s London Bass Guitar Show in the UK giving a master class and performing. Plus he will be doing extensive touring with his mainstay funk group, “Freekbass & The Bump Assembly” which also includes funk legend Razor Sharp Johnson on keys/synths and George Clinton & P-Funk alumni Rico Lewis on drums. And recently, he signed with the esteemed label Ropeadope Records.

lespecial
Hailed as a breakthrough act to watch in 2017, lespecial, based in Boston and upstate New York, have established themselves as innovators and tastemakers on their own unique trajectory. “Disguised as an average power trio from Boston, lespecial creeps around corners and reaches into the darkest depths of the absurd. lespecial is meticulous, creative and defiant; eclectic, multi-talented and driven. The band prides itself in extending the boundaries of musical ability, rebelliously laying waste to the limits of popular music.” (Ragin Randy Entertainment)
Labeled with such unique descriptions as “dark future groove” or “death funk” to “trance metal” or “haunted house party music”, it is tough to put one’s finger on this dangerous and determined trifecta’s distinct sound. A lespecial set brings their signature blend of psychedelic metal infused funk along with deep, thumping synths and 808s that will have your hips swaying as quick as your head banging. From the band’s origins as three friends in high school in the woods of Connecticut who shared a passion for building unique instruments and hitting them with drum sticks, through studying music at a collegiate level to now running their own music school and studio, The Music Cellar, in Millerton NY, Jonny Grusauskas (guitar/synth/sampler/percussion/vocals), Luke Bemand (bass/synth/percussion) and Rory Dolan’s (drums/samples) unique chemistry is what gives them their incomparable personality.
As Steve Morse, Boston Globe writer and Berklee College of Music professor, claims, “They are virtuoso players- and they really listen to each other closely, which is what raises them apart from today’s progressive wannabees”. After several, eclectic EP releases, their debut album, “Omnisquid”, released in 2015, finds the band “jumping through periods of hypnotic rhythms, catchy riffs, and synth grooves fit for a club… throw in a healthy dose of heavy metal and punk influenced guitar, and you have one of the most interesting new albums out there.” (Monkeygoose Magazine). ITDJENTS claims “For fans of King Crimson, Tool, Nine Inch Nails and Battles this is definitely the album for you”. The band’s expansive catalogue of singles and videos, including arrangements of everyone from Kanye West to Skrillex to Fela Kuti, is keeping all eyes and ears on lespecial as they prove in clubs and festivals nationwide why Relix Magazine claims “Amidst the rest of the noise, lespecial is the squeaky wheel that demands attention.”
Check out lespecial's recent set from Disc Jam Music Festival here:
Mr. B & The Tribal Hoose
Mr B began freestyling and recording mixtapes as a highschooler in Phoenix, AZ. He first came in to the public eye after viral youtube video "Wendys Drive Thru Rap". Soon after, he hit the road in support of acts like DMX and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. It did not take long for Mr B to realize he wanted to perform with more than just himself, and that's when the Tribal Hoose came along. With every member hailing from a different state, the group began as friends improvising live jams with Mr B as he freestyled at local house shows. They quickly realized they were on to something unique and captivating. The band has since grown and had the opportunity to perform at festivals with likes of Soulja Boy and Ying Yang Twins to name a few. They will B releasing their debut album in the Spring of 2017, followed by a tour to promote their album and movement.

The Werk Out Music & Arts Festival Returns This Weekend August 1, 2017 15:46
Photos by Josh Timmermans: Noble Visions
While festival season may be slowing down a bit, one of our favorite annual weekend lies ahead at Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio. After finally making it up for The Werk Out Music & Arts Festival last year, we immediately knew that this would be a can't miss occasion moving forward. Host band The Werks put in countless hours preparing and planning for this weekend each year, and one can only imagine what's in store for this festival's eighth installment this weekend.
This year's lineup promises to satisfy cravings for a wide variety of genres, with many of the festival scene's hottest acts coming together for the weekend. Several elements of this year's Werk Out have us particularly excited, and that all starts with The Werks headlining the main stage on all three nights. This includes a special 'Werktronic' set on Friday night, which promises to bring a serious dance party and even a few special guests. There is absolutely no telling what these guys will do at Legend Valley, and this year should be no different.
Two of last year's Werk Out favorites, Dopapod and Twiddle, will both return this year for two nights each. While Dopapod has been a staple for several years, Twiddle made its debut just last year, and it's hard to imagine a Werk Out without them in the future. This year will also feature the second installment of Twerkapod: Tribute To The 90's, which will include a rotating cast from The Werks, Twiddle, and Dopapod. This set is scheduled for 2:15 AM on Saturday morning, and one can only imagine what these guys have planned for round two.
Watch highlights from Twerkapod here:
Fans of the jamtronic scene are in for a major treat this year, as Gramatik and Emancipator are both scheduled for late night sets, and The Floozies will be on the main stage before Friday night's 'Werktronic' set. Werk Out veterans Zoogma also returns for two nights, while Future Rock will be handling the final set of the weekend at 3:00 AM on Sunday morning. Friday night's SunSquabi set on the Side Stage also promises to be a wildly entertaining hour of music, while Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk will surely have funk-filled party planned for their set on Saturday.
One of our favorite elements of this festival is its focus on bringing in many of the hottest 'up-and-comers' from across the country. Between BIG Something, Reed Mathis & Electric Beethoven, Spafford, and CBDB, its tough to decide who we're most excited about. The Electric Beethoven lineup features some serious players with Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green / Billy & The Kids), Todd Stoops (RAQ), Jay Lane (Ratdog/Primus), and Clay Welch. The entire concept of 'classical dance music' and this band's reinterpretations of Beethoven's symphonies is mind blowing. BIG Something, Spafford, and CBDB have each had huge years thus far, and they have certainly been in heavy rotation on our personal playlists. The weekend's sleeper set could easily come in the form of Funk You on Saturday afternoon. There is a reason that the Georgia-based funk outfit is crushing the southeast market.
While we already touched on the Twerkapod tribute set, there are several other tributes worth checking out this weekend. Last year's Broccoli Samurai set was one of our weekend highlights, and this year's Lotus tribute will surely be a hot topic. Additional tribute sets will come in the form of Oh Kee Pah: Tribute To Phish, Bulls On Parade: Tribute To Rage Against The Machine, Any Colour: Tribute To Pink Floyd, and Arrows of Neon: Tribute To The Grateful Dead.
While the lineup never disappoints and the operations of this festival are first class, the true magic lies within the sense of community. Those who have attended know exactly what we mean, and those heading to Ohio this weekend will feel it as soon as they arrive. The Werks have created, maintained, and grown one of the best parties in the midwest today, while always keeping the focus on the fan experience. The band members make a point to roam around, speak with fans, and enjoy the experience themselves. The sense of community that surrounds this band is the main ingredient in this festival's success, and we look forward to enjoying the ride for many years to come.

Watch Phish's Jam-Filled "Lawn Boy" From The Baker's Dozen July 27, 2017 16:03
Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past week, you have most likely observed the excitement surrounding Phish's 13-night run at Madison Square Garden. Cleverly dubbed 'The Baker's Dozen', this run of shows has certainly satisfied the rabid Phish community thus far. With five shows down and eight to go, the band shows no sign of repeating a song; making way for many unexpected covers, debuts, and some wildly entertaining improvisation.
On Tuesday night, the theme (or 'flavor') was 'jam-filled', and the band wasted no time showing us why. The "Sample In A Jar" opener went places it normally wouldn't, but the "Lawn Boy" that followed would be the biggest surprise of the night. As soon as Page McConnell (keys/vocals) brought out the keytar, it was clear that this was no ordinary "Lawn Boy." The next 25-minutes was a total whirlwind, with the song ultimately clocking in right at 30 minutes. Check out the full, pro-shot video footage below, and stay tuned for more updates from The Baker's Dozen.

Watch Phish Perform "Mr. Completely" For The First Time Since 2003 July 21, 2017 16:23
Phish's summer tour is off to a hot start, with five shows underway and the first night of the highly anticipated 'Baker's Dozen' run starting tonight. After three shows at Northerly Island in Chicago, the band made stops in both Dayton and Pittsburgh this week, with a lot of surprises and the expected variety of highlights. Pittsburgh's second set got particularly interesting as the band made a rather ambient transition from "Punch You In The Eye" into "Mr. Completely," a well known Trey Anastasio Band tune which hadn't been played by Phish since July 15th, 2003. Check out the full setlist from Pittsburgh below, as well as pro-shot footage of "Mr. Completely" released by Phish.

American Beauty Has Your Phish 'Baker's Dozen' Parties Covered July 21, 2017 16:07

As we all gear up for Phish's 'Baker's Dozen' run at Madison Square Garden, it's essential to know of your best options for both before and after the shows. While the options are nearly endless in New York City, very few will offer the convenience and caliber of talent that American Beauty has line up. First off, the multi-room venue is literally one block away from The Garden. More importantly, you will be setting yourself up to catch a variety of established national acts, as well as many of the hottest up-and-comers from across the country. Oh yeah, they serve a slice of free pizza with every drink purchased.

In addition to the amazing line-up of shows, American Beauty has unique and fun activities planned for the entire 13 night run:
-
The Jerry Lounge -- a hang out space on the second floor, designed to replicate the lot scene from outdoor Phish shows. Entry is free, and the lounge will feature vendors curated by PhanArt, a Grateful Dead DJ, grilled cheese, and other entertainment.
-
Free personal pizza served with each drink purchased, and an affordable and diverse craft beer & cocktail selection that’s otherwise impossible to find in Midtown Manhattan.
-
Phish and Grateful Dead Trivia Night -- held on the two off-night Mondays (7/24 & 7/31), the jam band trivia is especially perfect for out-of-town Phriends in NYC for the run and looking for affordable and fun things to do.
-
Grateful Dead Related Shows & Jerry’s Birthday Celebration Shows -- A number of post and pre shows will focus on the Grateful Dead’s music, and all shows on August 1st will celebrate the life of Jerry Garcia. (Full details below).
Named after the Grateful Dead’s 1970 studio album, American Beauty has made a serious connection with the jam band community over the fourteen months it’s been open. The bands booked for the pre & post show run resonate with the scene, and with the venue’s proximity to Madison Square Garden, affordability, and general chill vibe -- oh and free pizza! -- it’s a refuge in Midtown for fans looking for something to do before and after Phish.

The Stolen Faces Will Play Montgomery's Capri Theatre July 21, 2017 09:59
Live & Listen and Vintage Year are pleased to reveal the initial plans for on a brand new series of concerts coming to Montgomery's Capri Theatre. 'The Vintage Concert Series' will feature a variety of top tier performances at one of the city's favorite historic venues. Renowned Grateful Dead tribute act The Stolen Faces will kick things off on Thursday, September 21st at 7:30 PM. A very limited amount of tickets will be available to this intimate performance, so we encourage you to purchase yours in advance. Tickets to this show will go on sale on Friday, July 28th and can be purchased by clicking here.
The Grateful Dead continue to have one of the most rabid and loyal followings of any band in history, and deservedly so: They wrote great songs, and they were excellent musicians and terrific improvisers who never played a tune the same way twice.
Grateful Dead cover band The Stolen Faces deftly capture the spirit of the Dead, covering a wide variety of songs from the band’s expansive catalog and delivering them with the sort of energy and spontaneity that might have you thinking you’re standing in the Fillmore West in 1971. Led by bassist Christian Grizzard, the group features guitarist Jack Silverman, drummer Matt Martin, and a rotating cast of some of Nashville’s top session and touring musicians.
The members of The Stolen Faces all share a love for the Dead, and for the freeform jamming and good vibes that music entails. The group puts a high premium on nailing the vocal harmonies, and has the instrumental firepower to take the extended jams into some seriously trippy sonic territory. In a short time, touring through Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas, they’ve begun to establish a reputation as one of the Southeast’s most solid and rockin’ Dead bands!
