Purple Hat Productions has announced several artist additions for the tenth annual Purple Hatter’s Ball including New Orleans funk stalwarts Dumpstaphunk and live electronic four-piece Zoogma along with NickFRESH, POST.MODEM, Booty Boo, Jeff Randall, and Ion Zide.

Taking place at the beautiful Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Florida June 2 -4, 2017, the three-day music festival benefits The Rachel Morningstar Foundation (a non-profit 501c3 organization) in honor of longtime SOSMP friend and music festival lover Rachel Morningstar Hoffman.

For guests that want to arrive early, PHB will host a Thursday Pre-Party on June 1 with Zach Deputy, Dubconscious, Bells and Robes, and Blackwater Grease. Tickets on sale now.

PHB 2017 will utilize three stages including the famed Amphitheater Stage, a Beach Stage located along the wild black water Suwannee River that is picturesque for daytime sets, and the Uncle Charles Porch Stage. The event also features live art, yoga, workshops and a silent auction, as well as a Charity Disc Golf Tournament hosted by Zach Deputy. Since Rachel was an aspiring chef, PHB will be adding a culinary component for 2017 featuring food from several top notch chefs that will be announced at a later date.

The most memorable moment of the weekend is when Rachel’s loving mother, Margie Weiss (aka Mama Margie), leads an emotional ceremony celebrating her daughter’s memory. Each year, they released 24 monarch butterflies – 23 to represent Rachel’s age when she was taken from this world and 1 for her spirit that lives on.

A limited number of early bird tickets for $79 + taxes and fees are on sale now. Tickets will include three days of music and primitive camping. VIP upgrades are available, as well as tickets for the Thursday Pre-Party. The park also offers guest comforts including a general store, a full-service restaurant, showers and water stations. SOSMP will be offering a specially priced packaged that includes a cabin for four and golf cart for the weekend. To join the wait list for cabins, golf cart rentals and RV hook-ups, please contact SOSMP at (386) 364-1683.

Watch Mike Gordon Sit-In With Dumpstaphunk On "Funky Bitch" In Denver September 2, 2016 13:00

As Phish prepares for its annual three-night summer tour closer at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in in Commerce City, there is no shortage of excitement surrounding the weekend.  The excitement includes a number of both pre-parties and after-parties surrounding all three shows.  Phish bassist Mike Gordon went ahead and got his weekend started early, as he sat-in with New Orleans funk outfit Dumpstaphunk for a cover of Son Seals' "Funky Bitch" at Cervantes in Denver on Thursday night.

Reports say Gordon also added to Dumpstaphunk’s cover of DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean.”  This guest appearance came as no surprise to many fans, as Gordon sat in with Dumpstaphunk at this same venue prior to the Dick's run in 2014.

Live & Listen's Gumpstock to feature Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk on April 8th March 1, 2016 01:33

Live & Listen is pleased to announce the details on a brand new event scheduled for Friday, April 8th at the Capital City Club in Montgomery, Alabama starting at 7:00PM  One of New Orleans' hottest bands, Dumpstaphunk, will headline the first annual Gumpstock, an event which looks to become a major annual music event in central Alabama.  Dumpstaphunk is led by New Orleans-based musician Ivan Neville (keyboards/organ), the son of legendary R&B singer Aaron Neville of The Neville Brothers.  Montgomery's own Federal Expression will provide direct support, and an opening set from Jeffrey James will kick off the Gumpstock festivities.

We could not be more pleased to have twelve local business sponsors on board for this event, including: Vintage Year, Filet & Vine, Zaxby's, Guntharp Financial, Capitol Container, Stivers Ford Lincoln, SaZa, Chris' HotdogsSabel Steel, Capital City Club, Law Offices of Matt Alfreds, and American Rental & Tent.

General admission tickets go on sale Friday, March 4th, at 10:00 AM CST.

Dumpstaphunk stands out among New Orleans' best as one of the funkiest bands to ever arise from the Crescent City. Born on the Jazz & Heritage Festival stage, and descended from Neville family bloodlines, these soldiers of funk ignite a deep, gritty groove that dares listeners not to move. Their performances combine ingenious musicianship and complex funk and jazz arrangements with soulful melodies that are simple enough for anyone to enjoy.

In Big Easy tradition, dueling baselines from Tony Hall and Nick Daniels III set off one of the dirtiest rhythm sections on the planet, while Ivan Neville lights up the Hammond B3 keys and cousin Ian Neville’s funky guitar riffs send the groove into overdrive. The band recently welcomed their newest member, Alvin Ford Jr. to the quintet, a New Orleans born and raised powerhouse drummer.  Dumpstaphunk tosses around lead vocals and four-part harmonies the way Sly & the Family Stone did, but with three studio albums under their belt, Dumpstaphunk stands on the merit of their own material. Songs like “Dancin’ To The Truth” off their latest record, Dirty Word (July 30, 2013, Louisiana Red Hot Records), offer an escape into the funky sublime, sharing the true spirit of New Orleans with every note.
