Just a few weeks back, we introduced a new weekly concept known as "Feel Good Fridays," which highlights a different band/artist each week whose music simply brightens your day.  We all have those go to tracks that are so good they make you laugh. That's what we're going for. We want to share material from different genres that strikes that nostalgic chord and helps you kick off the weekend on the highest of notes.  And with that being said, let's talk about The Main Squeeze from Chicago, IL.

After forming in 2010 at Indiana University, The Main Squeeze began selling out clubs to frenzied college students in just a few short months. Their captivating live performances have since earned them a devoted national following and even caught the interest of legendary producer, Randy Jackson, who produced their latest album Mind Your Head. The dynamic 5-piece is currently based in los angeles.

Coming off their 2016 Red Rocks debut and a summer filled with festival plays (KAABOO, Summer Camp, and High Sierra) the Squeeze now prepare to release their most potent work to date, a brand new hard-hitting sound that transitions them from the indie scene to the majors. Many have likely heard the band's numerous singles, such as "Message To The Lonely," "Dr. Funk," and "Sweat," on SiriusXM JamOn, as well as other radio stations across the country.

Back in the summer of 2013, The Main Squeeze set up shop in WhatNoise? Studios to record the "New Orleans Cover Series," which caught the eyes and ears of many listeners nationwide. One of our favorite elements of this band is its tremendous range, which can clearly be seen in this series of videos. While this session included the likes of The Temptations' "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," Jimi Hendrix's "Fire," and Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," the video we keep coming back to is the Grateful Dead's "Eyes Of The World."

Attempting to tackle the Grateful Dead catalog can be a risky move for any band. The Deadhead nation can be as critical as any, leading some artists to stay away from Dead covers all together. The Main Squeeze nails the Robert Hunter/Jerry Garcia classic with ultimate precision. Corey Frye's soulful vocals paired with Max Newman's (guitar) tasteful licks lead the way for a melody that Jerry would surely approve of. Ben "Smiley" Silverstein's piano work is downright mesmerizing, while Rob Walker (bass) and Reuben Gingrich (drums) hold down a killer rhythm section. You can watch the video in full below, as well as the band's take on "Fire" and Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror," which was recorded in New Orleans in early 2017.
